Reading a Remote Teammate's Body

Reading a Remote Teammate's Body extends BioTerrarium's approach to physiological feedback into synchronous remote collaboration. The project investigates how ambient cues might communicate a collaborator's focus, strain, or calm during screen sharing, collaborative design, and joint problem solving. Its objective is to support awareness of a collaborator's state while preserving attention to the shared task.
Methodology
The system represents physiological state through subtle environmental changes in an experience involving two collaborators. These cues communicate presence and condition without requiring users to interpret raw biometric data. The research examines whether this form of ambient reciprocity can support social and bodily awareness during remote collaboration.
Experimental Environment
The study used a multiplayer game environment to examine remote collaboration. The figure shows the shared restaurant environment, task roles, and teammate state icons used in the experiment.
Current Status
The paper received a revise and resubmit decision from an ACM venue. I am addressing reviewer feedback and refining the study for resubmission in 2027. The revision considers the interaction design contribution and the ethical responsibilities associated with sharing physiological information between collaborators.
