Optimizing Eye-Tracking Locomotion in Virtual Environments

This project investigates eye tracking as an input for locomotion in virtual environments. It addresses the potential disruption to spatial continuity and presence associated with thumbstick navigation and teleportation. Gaze-guided locomotion connects visual attention to movement, with the objective of supporting navigation that corresponds more closely to how users visually explore space.
Methodology
Building on my research into environmental legibility, the study compares eye tracking approaches for locomotion in terms of comfort, accuracy, and ease of exploration. The application context is architectural and landscape visualization in head-mounted displays. The design objective is to reduce the need for navigation instruction while supporting users' understanding of distance, direction, and spatial structure.
Current Status
The research was submitted to CAADRIA 2024, the Conference on Computer-Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia. It forms part of my broader investigation into how interaction techniques and environmental cues support spatial understanding and comfort in head-mounted displays.
